Porsche 911 will receive hybrid version

Porsche has officially announced the development of a hybrid version of its iconic sports car with an index 911. According to the senior managers of the German brand, such decision was made for reducing CO2 emissions and the necessity to follow modern standards of efficiency and environmental performance.

At the auto show in Detroit, the Head of Porsche department responsible for the power trains development, Erhard Mёsle said that the work on the hybrid modification of the 911 is already started, but we shouldn’t rely on its imminent appearance, an innovative sports car will debut on the market no earlier than 2020 with the arrival of the next generation of the iconic coupe.

According to the Porsche, engineers have to solve a lot of technical challenges related to the placement of rechargeable hybrid propulsion system under the hood of 911. Also, experts of the German brand try to minimize the weight of the next-generation sports car, and it is planned to increase the number of parts made of carbon fiber. In addition, Mёsle said that in the near future, the Porsche 911 will continue to be offered with a manual transmission, despite the fact that the main competitors on the market have almost completely abandoned this option.
